3It's International Babywearing Week

So, it’s IBWW 2015. What does that mean for you? Is it a special sling event, like a walk through your town, or a party sling meet? Whatever you have planned, it’s so wonderful to see so much positivity, energy and love surrounding babywearing.

Baby carrying is so much more than just the act of carrying your baby in a sling. It can enable you to connect, not just with your child, but with other parents, other families. Making those connections can be profound, life altering even. To know you’re not alone in how you feel, think and act. To actually meet a real person and feel the warmth of that connection. To get to know people, and to share your journey with them.

I have had the immense privilege of sharing my carrying journey with local parents and families for over 5 years through our group Babywearing NI. I started this group in early 2010, not to help me find other slingy parents specifically, but to find other parents who understood our family, how we did things, and who I could talk to openly. It worked. The initial connection was made with a few mummies, and from there, our group has grown and grown and grown. Babywearing NI now has a dedicated team of consultants and peer supporters to help spread the message of positive, respectful carrying, Province wide.

Babywearing NI is a free resource to help with carrying your baby in a sling or carrier, reaching parents through sling meets & our library. And it’s so much more too. All those years ago, it helped me make connections that were deeply needed, both for me as a mummy and an individual. I am so grateful for the support I’ve received over the years from the other parents in the group, and I hope I have been able to give back as much.

Wherever you are in the world, and however you’re celebrating IBWW, take the theme and run with it - EMBRACE YOUR WORLD, make connections, get out there and do your thing, whatever it is.

Wishing you all much love, & super-happy baby carrying,

Beth xx
