Ring Slings

We love ring slings, and I know that lots & lots of you love ring slings too!

Every day, and I really mean, every single day, multiple times, I’m asked ‘what’s the difference between the ring sling brands and the shoulder styles?’

So, here, we’re going to have a mahoosive dose of ring sling geekery ♥

DETAILS

The woven wrap ring sling is a long piece of woven wrap fabric with 2 aluminium rings sewn into one end.  The length usually ranges from 1.8m to 2m. Sometimes the end of the fabric has a taper, sometimes it’s blunt.

Check out these video links for a smashing visual ring-sling-how-to guide:

There are 2 basic shoulder styles - gathered and pleated.  Within both basic types there are variations.

GATHERED SHOULDER

The gathered style is more prevalent amongst woven wrap brands.  It’s exactly as it sounds -  the fabric is sewn in a straight line from one side of the wrap to the other, creating a gathered shoulder. The depth at which the gather is sewn does vary widely (check out the photos below)!

PLEATED SHOULDER

The pleated shoulder varies a smidge more.  The most popular pleats used are accordion and boxed pleats (although there are oodles more!!).  You can see how these vary in the photos below ♥  Some pleats are softer than others, some narrower, some wider ♥
